One possible point of view is that harmonic analysis questions are questions of isoperimetric nature, only ``perimeter" and ``volume" should be understood in a very broad sense. This point of view can be fruitful, as functional isoperimetric problems are often ruled by a certain underlying non-linear PDE. The search of such ``hidden PDE" allows us to solve some old problems of singular integral theory, like for example, the Muckenhoupt problem about the weighted Hilbert transform, that we will show how to solve during the colloquium.
